Lasik Eye CareOnce a patient has decided to undergo the Lasik surgery procedure and has done so, there are certain guidelines to follow to maintain Lasik eye care. After Lasik eye surgery, the patient should take these special precautions to prevent injury or infection during the initial postoperative period. The patient should not take a shower or wash his hair until the day after laser eye surgery. Lasik eye care also includes avoiding getting soap in the eye when bathing and washing your hair for at least 1 week after Lasik eye surgery. The patient should also avoid getting products such as hair spray and shaving lotion in the eyes while healing from Lasik eye surgery. Following surgery, Lasik eye care also includes not rubbing the eyes for the first week after laser eye surgery. Generally for Lasik eye care the doctor will recommend that the patient wears the eye shield/goggles that he received in his postoperative kit when the patient is sleeping for the first 3 nights after laser eye surgery. Lasik eye care requires that the patient doesn't allow tap water to get in the eyes for at least a week after laser eye surgery. Following Laser or Lasik eye surgery it is recommended for Lasik eye care that there is no swimming for at least 10 days after laser eye surgery. Other recommendations are no eye makeup for at least 1 week after laser eye surgery, do not get hair colored or permed for at least 10 days after laser eye surgery and no exercise for 2 days after laser eye surgery. Wearing eye protection for at least the first month is also a must for proper Lasik eye care, once you have resumed exercise and sports activities after laser eye surgery. Being exposed to bright sunshine may cause corneal scarring, and therefore to facilitate correct Lasik eye care, sunglasses are recommended on bright days over a period of 12 months after laser eye surgery. The key to a patient's speedy recovery and the proper Lasik eye care is to
follow doctor instructions, treat the eye or eyes well and take any and all
precautions to protect the area that has just received the surgery. If a patient
has any questions after laser eye surgery or about his Lasik eye care, or if
the patient experiences pain, a sudden decrease in vision, red eye(s), or discharge
from the eye(s), the patient should contact his eye doctor immediately. Lasik
eye care can have marvelous results but the patient must realize that the procedure
is still 'surgery' and must treat it as so. |
